New Poem in POETRY!

| Wild Kingdom

Not long ago, I finished revising a poetry manuscript I’ve been working on for the last three years. Wild Kingdom explores what I’m thinking of as hidden ferocity of academe. The manuscript is filled with poems about animals as well as portraits of the different kinds of people–the students, faculty, and administrators–who populate the wild kingdoms known as colleges and universities.

Writing this manuscript was very challenging, both intellectually and emotionally, but also pushed me to explore different forms of narrative and lyric modes than I’ve used before. So, it was really exciting when I learned that the final poem I had drafted for the collection, “Fairy Tale with Laryngitis and Resignation Letter,” had been accepted for publication by Don Share, over at POETRY. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to receive the acceptance email, which felt like a good omen of things to come. If you’re interested in reading this poem, you can find it here. I’m so happy and proud to be part of such a wonderful issue.
