Great News About the Wounded Line!
I am absolutely delighted to announce that I’ve just signed a contract with University of New Mexico Press for my first craft book. The Wounded Line: A Guide to Writing Poems of Trauma is perhaps twenty years in the making. Ever since I since I was a very young graduate student, just beginning to train in Genocide, War, and Trauma Studies, I’ve been thinking about the ethical concerns and the most helpful craft elements for writing poems that engage with trauma.
The first of its kind, this accessible craft book will provide both new and accomplished poets with more than twenty practical strategies for representing and exploring trauma on the page. The Wounded Line will also include creative writing prompts, a series of best practices for writing that explores trauma, as well as suggestions for further reading and research.
I am thrilled to be working on this book. And I hope it proves useful to other poets and writers who are attempting the difficult working of narrating and representing trauma on the page.
