Notable Essay!

I received really nice news today. It turns out that one of my essays, which appeared last year in The Colorado Review, was selected as one of the “Notable Essays and Literary Nonfiction of 2019” for The Best American Essays 2020. I was really excited for this little piece of nice news, because I love The American Essays series.

This particular essay, “Portrait on Metal with Patterned Scarf and Streak of Light,” was one I really loved writing. It was difficult and challenged me to navigate the relationship between personal essay and critical prose. It involved research as well as an expedition to a tintype studio in Dallas. You can read the piece here.
